- How long does it take to get hired?
The process for hiring can take 3 – 5 months.
- What are the steps for the hiring process?
May vary depending on the position:
- Online application
- Initial background review
- Minimum job standards testing
- Full background review
- Interview
- Additional employment testing
- Final review
- Job offer
- I have prior experience; do I need to go through the full Field Training?
Yes. However, the Field Training can be adjusted for candidates with experience.
- Do you sponsor people to the academy?
Yes. The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office operates their own academies for corrections and law enforcement training. We offer sponsorship opportunities for both academies.
- Do I have to be a United States Citizen?
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) requires U.S. Citizenship for sworn and certified positions.
- I’m certified in another state. Can I be hired?
Yes. However, you must first complete the FDLE/ Equivalency-of-Training (EOT) course. Law enforcement officers from the military or Puerto Rico may also be eligible.
- I took Civil Service testing for another agency and passed. Will I need to take yours?
Yes. We do not accept scores from other agencies since each agency has their own testing process.
- What are the age requirements to join?
All applicants must be at least 18 years of age for detention deputy and civilian positions, and 21 years of age for deputy sheriff positions.
